BUIES
CREEK, N.C. - The Campbell University women's tennis team won two
of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and it proved to
be the difference as the Camels knocked off George Washington, 4-3,
Tuesday afternoon at the Nisbet Tennis Center.
The Campbell duo of Lisa
Sutton and Borislava Nikolova have now
won their ninth match in a row as they defeated Meg Tyner and
Dorota Lysienia, 8-5, at the number two doubles position. The
victory from Sutton/Nikolova clinched the doubles point for the
Camels after Blanca Saenz/Anais
Gomar won their match at the number three position.
Saenz/Gomar knocked off the George Washington team of Michele Style
and Hilary Kustoff, 8-4. The Campbell duo has now won four
straight at the number three position and now stand at 6-3 during
dual play.
In singles play, Saenz continued her solid play as she defeated
Lysienia, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 at the number three position. Saenz is
currently in the middle of a team best six match winning streak and
is now 7-3 on the dual season.
Nikolova earned her fifth straight singles victory at the number
four position as she knocked off Jennifer Hirsh, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.
Nikolova is now 9-3 on the season.
The first singles victory on the afternoon for Campbell came at the
number six position as freshman Lourdes
Ros defeated Sasha Gluck, 6-2, 7-5. The victory was the first
dual singles victory of the season for Ros.
With the win, Campbell is now 9-3 on the season while George
Washington fell to 6-6 following the loss.
The Camels return to action on Friday as they hit the road to take
on UNC Asheville beginning at 1 p.m.
