ASHEVILLE,
N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's tennis team won the doubles point,
but Campbell won four singles matches in three sets as the Lady
Camels edged the Bulldogs, 5-2 in women's tennis action at the
Crowne Plaza Tennis Center Friday afternoon.
With the win, Campbell improved its mark to 10-3 on the season
while the loss snapped UNC Asheville's (7-5) five-match winning
steak.
The Bulldogs won the doubles point as the #1 team of Leslie Smith
and Stephanie Schon defeated the Camels duo of Cristina Garcia and
Ana Surviladze, 8-6.
Asheville clinched the doubles points thanks to a win as the #2
team of Devon Cavanaugh and Louise Bottomley slipped past
Campbell's Lisa
Sutton and Borislava Nikolova, 9-7.
The Camels did get a victory from the duo of Anais Gomar/Blanca
Saenz in the number three doubles position.
In singles play, the Bulldogs were only able to win at #4 flight.
Britney Cloer downed Borislava Nikolova, 6-1,
7-5.
Lisa
Sutton improved her singles record to 9-4 on the dual season
with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 victory Leslie Smith at number one singles.
Cristina Garcia got back on the winning track with a victory at the
number two position.
The reigning A-Sun women's tennis player of the week, Blanca
Saenz won her seventh match in a row by downing Devon
Cavanaugh, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2, at the number three position.
Campbell also got victories from both Anais Gomar and Lourdes Ros in the
five and six positions respectively. Ros has now won two straight
matches at the number six position.
Campbell continues the road trip tomorrow as they will face A-Sun
foe East Tennessee State University beginning at 1 p.m.
