New Track Complex Nearing Completion

BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Construction continues on Campbell's new track & field complex, located adjacent to the John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center, Johnson Natatorium and the Campbell Cross Country Course. Click here for new photos from the construction site.

The completed 400-meter layout will include eight, 42-inch lanes on its polyurethane surface. Features will include a water jump for the steeple chase, high-jump "D" area, pole vault runway, two shot put rings, one discus/hammer ring. There will be one long jump runway adjacent to the home stretch with a sand pit on each end to allow for wind direction changes.

The $1.2 million track facility, which will eventually include bleachers and a storage building, is located just off N.C. 27, behind the John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center and in front of the Nathan Johnson Natatorium.

The construction will be completed in two phases, with the $850,000 eight-lane lane track projected to be completed in December or early January and the bleachers and storage building by spring 2011.
