CREEK, N.C. - Campbell junior Lisa
Sutton has been named First-Team All-Atlantic Sun by the
league's coaches and sports information directors, the conference
office announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Sutton, a native of Kelsall, England led the Camels with a 12-9
overall dual singles record. She also teamed with Borislava
Nikolova to earn a 14-5 mark in dual doubles play with a 7-3
record in conference action. The duo was 12-2 while playing in the
number two position.
Sutton has played each singles match at the No. 1 position and won
six matches in a row from February 23 to March 13 and the top
performer also owns a 6-4 mark in A-Sun play. Sutton started out
the season having won nine matches in a row in doubles play with.
The Long Beach State transfer also won two doubles matches during
the Elon Fall Invitational and the duo advanced to the round of 16
at the ITA Regional.
Player of the Year honors went to Aline Berkenbrock of UNF after
going undefeated in singles matches on the season, having beaten
nationally ranked players from ETSU, UCF, Purdue, Stetson and
College of Charleston. In doubles play, Berkenbrock owns a 21-7
tally on the season, including a 10-0 mark in league play.
UNF head coach Rodrigo Puebla earned Coach of the Year accolades
after finishing with a nearly perfect overall mark of 18-2, only
falling to nonconference opponent College of Charleston and league
foe ETSU.
Carolina De los Santos of Stetson earned Freshman of the Year
honors, in addition to First-Team All-Atlantic Sun accolades after
finishing regular-season play at 15-6 overall and 6-4 in A-Sun
matches. The freshman has played throughout the top half, but has
usually seen action at the No. 1 position, owning a 10-3
record.

Campbell vs. No. 5 Kennesaw State in First Round of A-Sun
Tournament
For the second consecutive season Campbell enters the A-Sun
tournament as the No. 4 seed and will face No. 5 seed Kennesaw
State for the first time in postseason play. The match will take
place Thursday at 4:30 p.m. from the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center on
the campus of Stetson University. The winner will take on
top-seeded ETSU on Friday in the semifinals at 4:30.
The Camels enter the match with a 14-8 overall record and a 6-4
mark in Atlantic Sun Conference play. Kennesaw State comes in with
a 12-10 record and 4-6 in A-Sun play.
The two teams faced each other during the regular season with
Campbell earning a narrow 4-3 victory back on February 26 in Buies
Creek. The Camels swept through doubles play while earning
victories in the top three positions in singles competition.
Kennesaw State is led by Second-Team All-Atlantic Sun member Vera
Shkundina and All-Freshman member Therese Lagerkvist.
The Camels have advanced to the semifinals of the Atlantic Sun
tournament four times in a row but they have not reached the finals
since 2003.
