BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Campbell football program announced its
four team captains for the 2010 season on Monday, April 26. The
captains are quarterback Daniel Polk (Cary, N.C.),
running back C.J. Oates (Faison, N.C.),
defensive back Brandon Chandler
(Kernersville, N.C.) and linebacker Lee Stanley (Smithfield,
N.C.).
Polk is coming off a 2010 season where he led the team and ranked
sixth in the conference in rushing with 572 yards and four scores.
The redshirt junior also threw for 1,355 yards and five touchdowns
on his 115 completions. Polk was named a second-team selection on
offense to the annual Academic All-PFL Team. This is the first time
he has served as a team captain. He was a game captain last season
against Marist on Oct. 3.
Oates was the team's second leading rusher last season and totaled
567 yards and three touchdowns as a redshirt sophomore. His total
placed his seventh in the league. Oates enters 2010 on the verge of
topping 1,000 yards rushing in his career and has totaled 931 yards
on the ground. This is the first time he has served as a team
captain in his career. Oates was a game captain against both
Methodist and Morehead State last season.
Chandler played in and started all 11 games at safety last season
for CU. He tied for the team lead and ranked tied for fourth in the
conference in interceptions with three. Chandler totaled 43 tackles
and 1.5 stops for loss as a true sophomore last season. He
spearheaded a Campbell secondary that ranked fourth in the league
in pass defense. Chandler earned an honorable mention ranking for
Campbell on the All-PFL team in 2009. Chandler served as a game
captain twice last season.
Stanley started all 11 games last season at linebacker. He led the
team with 88 tackles and 45 solo stops. His total and average of
eight tackles a game placed him eighth. He was able to reach double
figures in tackles four times during the 2009 season. For his
outstanding effort he earned an honorable mention place on the
All-PFL team. Stanley served as a game captain twice last season
(Birmingham-Southern and Morehead State).
Campbell opens the 2010 football season on the road on Sept. 4
against UVA Wise. CU will play its first home game on Sept. 11 at
Barker-Lane Stadium against Old Dominion at 1 p.m.
