DeLAND, Fla. - The Campbell University softball team had two
players selected All-Atlantic Sun Second Team and a player on the
All-Freshmen Team, the conference office announced on Tuesday
morning.
Freshman Sarah
Forgacs was both a second team selection and a unanimous
all-freshmen team selection. Forgacs leads the team and all
freshmen in the league with her .350 batting average. This season
she is the team-leader in runs (26), hits (49), stolen bases (19),
triples (3) and on-base percentage (.403). Overall the freshman is
ranked among the Atlantic Sun's top 10 in batting average (7th),
stolen bases (t-4th) and triples (t-2nd). Forgacs has now reached
base in 28 of her last 30 games and 38 of the 48 games she has
picked up a plate appearance this year. The freshman leads the team
with 13 multi-hit games including a pair of three hit performances
against South Alabama (3/7) and North Carolina (3/31). Forgacs tied
a Campbell single game record with her three walks against USC
Upstate last weekend. Forgacs is the sixth Campbell player to earn
a place on the all-freshman team the last three seasons.
Junior Amanda Miller earned her
second consecutive Second Team All-Atlantic Team selection in 2010.
Miller is the only Campbell player to have started all 53 games
this season and leads the team in doubles with nine. The junior
defensive prowess and range at shortstop rank her first in the
league in assists (131) and has aided Campbell to a top 10 ranking
nationally in doubles plays a game (0.45). Miller really picked up
her play in league games and led the team with 10 RBIs. She tied
for the team lead in doubles (3), home runs (2) and total bases
(25), while placing second in batting average (.296) and hits (16).
Overall on the year the Dunn native was third on the team in RBIs
with 23. Miller also had the second most game-winning RBIs on the
team with four and drove in the game winning runs in both games of
the doubleheader sweep over Belmont (5/1) this season.
Lipscomb led the field with six first team selections. The Lady
Bisons' Whitney Kiihnl was named both the Atlantic Sun Player of
the Year and Pitcher of the Year. LU's head coach Kristin Ryman was
named the A-Sun Coach of Year, while Kennesaw State's Ashley
Burkett took home Freshman of the Year honors.
Campbell (23-29-1, 10-10 Atlantic Sun), the sixth seed, will take
on top seed Lipscomb (44-10, 18-2 Atlantic Sun) on Thursday, May
11th, at 11 a.m. in the first round of the Atlantic Sun
