DELAND, Fla. - Campbell's softball team (23-31-1) was eliminated
from the Atlantic Sun Tournament as Jacksonville (33-22) plated a
run in the bottom of the eighth inning at Patricia Wilson Field on
Thursday, May 13.
Jacksonville scored the only run of the game in the eighth inning.
Kelly McKeon singled to right field. A ground out moved her to
second. Kayla Ouelett then singled up the middle for the game's
only run.
Senior Brittany Stanley took the
loss for Campbell (11-12) and allowed just one run on six hits in
7.2 innings pitched. The win was earned by Olivia Kline (10-7).
Kline went all eight innings for Jacksonville with six hits allowed
and five strikeouts.
The Camels wasted a two-out double from freshman Sarah Forgacs in the
first inning as the next batter was fanned by Kline.
Forgacs again attempted to start a rally in the fourth with a
one-out bunt single. Again she was stranded as the next two were
retired in order to keep the game scoreless.
Ouellet led off the fourth with an infield single. She took second
when Katie Kelly pop out to third and the ball was thrown away.
Ouellet moved to third on Sarah Simon's ground out. She could move
no farther as Stanley retired Kline on a ground out.
The Camels threatened in the sixth inning. Junior Keeli
Michael started the inning with a single. Junior Katie
Hinton moved her to second with a single of her own. A
sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position. Kline was
up to the task and retired the next two in order to keep the game
scoreless.
The Dolphins started the seventh with an infield single from Simon.
Annike Don was then inserted to run. She moved to second on a
sacrifice bunt. After a line out, junior Amanda Miller made a
great running catch into the outfield from short of the ball hit by
Amanda Schmidt.
The Camels wasted a golden opportunity in the eighth inning.
Michael led off the frame with a single. Hinton then popped out on
the infield after a failed bunt attempt. A fly out followed. McGee
then hit a sinking fly ball that Melissa Morales made a diving
catch of in the outfield from second base.
