Softball Drops Extra Inning Game To Jacksonville; Eliminated From Atlantic Sun Tournament

DELAND, Fla. - Campbell's softball team (23-31-1) was eliminated from the Atlantic Sun Tournament as Jacksonville (33-22) plated a run in the bottom of the eighth inning at Patricia Wilson Field on Thursday, May 13.

Jacksonville scored the only run of the game in the eighth inning. Kelly McKeon singled to right field. A ground out moved her to second. Kayla Ouelett then singled up the middle for the game's only run.

Senior Brittany Stanley took the loss for Campbell (11-12) and allowed just one run on six hits in 7.2 innings pitched. The win was earned by Olivia Kline (10-7). Kline went all eight innings for Jacksonville with six hits allowed and five strikeouts.

The Camels wasted a two-out double from freshman Sarah Forgacs in the first inning as the next batter was fanned by Kline.

Forgacs again attempted to start a rally in the fourth with a one-out bunt single. Again she was stranded as the next two were retired in order to keep the game scoreless.

Ouellet led off the fourth with an infield single. She took second when Katie Kelly pop out to third and the ball was thrown away. Ouellet moved to third on Sarah Simon's ground out. She could move no farther as Stanley retired Kline on a ground out.

The Camels threatened in the sixth inning. Junior Keeli Michael started the inning with a single. Junior Katie Hinton moved her to second with a single of her own. A sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position. Kline was up to the task and retired the next two in order to keep the game scoreless.

The Dolphins started the seventh with an infield single from Simon. Annike Don was then inserted to run. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a line out, junior Amanda Miller made a great running catch into the outfield from short of the ball hit by Amanda Schmidt.

The Camels wasted a golden opportunity in the eighth inning. Michael led off the frame with a single. Hinton then popped out on the infield after a failed bunt attempt. A fly out followed. McGee then hit a sinking fly ball that Melissa Morales made a diving catch of in the outfield from second base.
