GREENSBORO, N.C.-Campbell's Harold Sims notched a
season-best 400 meter hurdle time to advance on to the weekend's
final Thursday at the NCAA East Regional at the North Carolina
A&T Irwin Belk Track & Field Complex.
Sims posted a time of 51.31 for 10th overall on day one
of competition. The senior placed second in his heat, coming in
just shy of Rutgers' Aaron Younger at 51.23. Johnny Dutch, a junior
from South Carolina, holds the overall lead in the competition with
a time of 49.83.
The men's 400 meter hurdles national semifinal round will be held
tomorrow evening at 7 p.m.
Campbell freshman Diego Lawrence was also in
action Thursday, placing 29th in the men's long jump.
The Waxaw, N.C. native registered a mark of 7.31 meters, along with
Georgia's Aaron LaGarde.
Lawrence finished third among all freshmen in the region. Brian
Richards of Long Island placed just better than Lawrence with a
7.34 meter leap for 27th, while LSU'a Damar Forbes
recorded the number three overall score with a 7.82 meter mark.
Campbell junior Adoniss Jones will also
compete on Friday, taking part in the men's 110 meter hurdles at
4:30 p.m. Jones is making his third straight appearance in the 110
meter hurdles event, after claiming the A-Sun crown with school
record time of 14.00. The mark ranks Jones 10th in the
Southeast, and 18th in the entire East. The mark also
tied a conference record, matching Samford's Derrick Moore from
2001.
The men's 110 meter hurdle region finals will be held on Saturday
at 7:05 p.m.
The top six from each Regional will advance to the national
championships in Eugene, Ore., on the campus of the University of
Oregon. The championships will be held on June 9-12 at historic
Hayward Field.
