BUIES CREEK, N.C. - With a 3.18 cumulative team grade-point
average, Campbell University earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award
from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Twelve members of the Campbell women's program also were named to
the 2009-10 Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic Team after
compiling grade-point averages of 3.0 or better during the fall
semester.
Four players - Anna DiTommaso, Ilene Fahle, Tori Hoagland and Hanna
Salmen - earned A-Sun All-Academic recognition for the
third-straight year. A graphic design major, DiTommaso also was
presented the team's Eric Brodin Award for Academic Excellence for
the second year in a row.
"To gain these awards are always goals the ladies set for
themselves and it is an accomplishment they are rightly proud of
this year," said head coach Todd Clark. "These awards demonstrate
the commitment both on and off the field of our program and
our athletics department as a whole. It further exhibits just what
an exceptional place Campbell University is to study and play."
Last fall, Campbell (9-9-2, 4-4-2) rode a tight defense and timely
scoring to its first Atlantic Sun Championship tournament berth
since 2005. Eight of CU's nine victories came by one-goal margins,
including league wins over Lipscomb, Florida Gulf Coast, East
Tennessee State and USC Upstate.
Sixteen letter winners, including 10 starters, return from the 2009
squad.
