BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Matt Moot of Campbell University has been named
a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches
Association of America for 2009-10. The junior from Johnstown,
Pa., is one of 119 Division I golfers to earn the award.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status
an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in
at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in
70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA
Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I and
maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A
recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good
standing at his college or university.
A three-time Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic Team member, Moot
owns a 3.742 grade-point average as a business administration
major. He played in all 10 events for the Camels in '09-10 and
posted a 73.5 stroke average.
"Campbell University is about creating options for the future,"
said Campbell head coach John Crooks. "Matt is an outstanding
student-athlete in every sense. He is one of the hardest workers
on the golf team and one of the most conscientious students I have
had the privilege to coach. He is preparing himself to be one
of our future leaders once he graduates. Matt will have choices in
his chosen sport, in the world of finance, and on the political
scene if he chooses. Matt Moot is a deserving and worthy recipient
of the Cleveland golf/Srixon All-American honor."
Moot earned Atlantic Sun All-Tournament honors in April after
finishing in a fourth-place tie at the league championship. He
shot 75-71-69-215 on the par-72, 6975-yard Legends Course at
Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga., including three-straight birdies to
close the final round.
The A-Sun performance marked one of four top-10 showings for Moot
in 2009-10. He tied for fifth at the Xavier Renaissance
Invitational in Ft. Myers, Fla., where he shot a collegiate
career-low 65 in the opening round and finished the 54-hole event
at 12-under-par (65-68-71-204).
Moot's 65 was the team's second-best round of the 2009-10 season
and stands just one stroke shy of the school (Division I era)
record-low round of 64, shared by Vaita Guillaume (2010) and Simon
Dunn (2001). His 204 total at Renaissance is the third-best
54-hole effort in CU records.
The two-time former Tri-State junior champion is one of eight
Atlantic Sun golfers to earn a place on the Cleveland Golf/Srixon
All-America Scholar team. East Tennessee State (Rhys Enoch, Paul
O'Kane, Seamus Power) had three individuals recognized, while
Belmont (Scott O'Brien, Dan Smith) placed two. Josh Gallman (USC
Upstate) and J.P. Putnam (Kennesaw State) also were named to the
unit.
In May, Moot won the Keith Hills Amateur Championship by shooting
66-71-137 on his collegiate home course. He then paired with
Campbell teammate Zak Drescher to win the Pennsylvania Better-Ball
Championship.
