WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Campbell University Men's and Women's Cross
Country Teams notched their first wins of the season at the UNC
Wilmington Invitational on Friday, September 10.
The men defeated UNC Wilmington in the 6k race with a score of 27,
narrowly defeating UNCW by 3 points. It was just as tight in the
4k women's race as Campbell also edged UNCW by 3 points with a
score of 26.
Leading the Campbell Men was senior, Terence
Attema (Smithville Ontario), who followed up his second place
performance last week, with a win. Attema finished with a time of
18:36, 31 seconds ahead of Wil Zahorodny of UNC Wilmington.
Sophomore, DeLohnni
Nicol-Samuel (Brandon, Manitoba) finished 3rd with a
time of 19:20 for the Camels, 15 seconds ahead of his teammate,
freshman, Morgan
Timiney (Kalamazoo, Mich.), who finished 4th.
Freshman, Chris
Schulist (Holland, Mich.), also had a strong showing for
Campbell, finishing 7th with a time of 19:42. Herald
Alvarez (Franklin Park, Ill.) finished 18th in his
collegiate debut with a time of 20:24.
Rachel
Deline (Belleville, Ontario) led the way for the Campbell
Women, finishing 7th with a time of 15:00. The junior
finished 52 seconds behind the winner of the race, Wesley
Fraizier.
Freshmen Samantha
Robbins (London, Ontario) and Ashley Matthews (Raleigh, N.C.)
also had strong performances for the Camels. Robbins had a time of
15:08, two seconds ahead of Matthews, which was good enough for
9th and 10th place respectively.
Coming in 13th for the Camels, was sophomore, Laura
Verschuren (Guelph, Ontario), who had a time of 15:31. Junior,
Monica
Vargas (Greendale, Wis.), finished 16th with a time
of 15:48.
The Fighting Camels are in action again next Saturday, September 18
at the Asics-Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C. Start time
is scheduled for 9 a.m.
