UNCW Tourney Up Next for Camels

BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Campbell will travel to its final regular season tournament of the season this weekend, taking on North Carolina State, Elon and UNC Wilmington in the UNCW Hilton Garden Inn Beach Bash.

Campbell and Elon will start off the tournament inside UNCW's Hanover Hall at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. UNCW and NC State will follow at 7 p.m. Saturday's action will begin with Elon and UNCW at 11 a.m., followed by the Camels and NC State at 1:30 p.m., and Elon vs. NC State at 4:30 p.m. Campbell and UNCW will wrap up the tourney at 7 p.m.

The Camels (2-10) come into the weekend on a three match losing streak following a 3-1 loss at High Point Tuesday night. Seniors Allyson Goldbach and Emily Werner tagged 11 kills apiece in the contest, while Heather Wilson posted 22 assists and Kelsey Campbell registered 18 digs.

Goldbach, an outside hitter from Jupiter, Fla., is averaging 2.47 kills per frame on the season, adding 2.28 digs a set. Werner, who became the 10th Camel ever to 1,000 career kills on Tuesday, is recording 2.35 kills and 1.56 digs per set. The libero duo of juniors Campbell and Lauren Garza average 3.30 and 3.11 digs per stanza, respectively.

After beginning the season 5-0, Elon (7-5) has dropped five of its last seven matches, most recently a 3-0 setback at Charlotte. Junior outside hitter Caroline Lemke paces the Phoenix at 2.77 kills per set on a .329 hitting percentage. Junior Traci Stewart and senior Sarah Schermerhorn, meanwhile, collect 2.59 and 2.45 scores per set. Junior setter Megan McMahon notches 9.63 assists per frame.

NC State (8-1) has already matched its 2009 wins total, putting together a sweep of last weekend's Hilton RTP Invitational in Raleigh. The Wolfpack took wins over Georgia Southern, Mercer and Morehead State inside Reynolds Coliseum. Junior outside hitter Becah Fogle fuels NCSU at 3.67 kills per set, while junior middle Margaret Salata adds 3.13 kills a frame. Sophomore setter Megan Cyr averages 11.87 assists, while junior libero Kelly Wood collects 3.53 digs per set.

The Seahawks (3-7) are coming off a 0-3 weekend at the Butler Volleyball Invitational, falling to Xavier, Army and the host Bulldogs. Senior outside hitter Kelli Clear leads the Seahawks at 2.68 kills per set, while freshman outside Samantha Seifert added 2.25 scores a frame. Clear adds 2.82 digs a set, with junior defensive specialist Delanie Dolan gathering 3.94 digs.

Campbell will be back at home on Tuesday night, Sept. 21, taking on North Carolina Central at 7 p.m. inside the John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center.
