BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell's football program starts Pioneer
Football League play this weekend and hosts Davidson College at 1
p.m. at Barker-Lane Stadium/Ed Gore Field
Campbell (1-1) fell in its last game to visiting Old Dominion by a
44-13 score on Sept. 11. The Camels hung with the scholarship
Monarchs and were only down 10 at the break after a made 46-yard
field goal from Adam
Willets. The field goal was the second-longest of Willets'
career. Willets added a 38 yarder in the third quarter and has now
made 13 of his last 14 field goals over the last two seasons.
Willets currently leads the Pioneer Football League in points from
a kicker and ranks fourth overall in points scored with 15.
Redshirt senior quarterback Daniel
Polk ran for another score and has now totaled three rushing
touchdowns. His 18 points are tied for the most in the league.
This will be the third time that Campbell and Davidson have played
against each other. The Wildcats have won both the previous
meetings including a 24-7 victory last season and a 49-0 win in
Buies Creek two years ago. Redshirt junior C.J.
Oates led the offense for Campbell with 67 yards rushing and 41
yards through the air. Redshirt junior Carl
Smith scored CU's touchdown with the three-yard run in the
third quarter. Last seasons game marked the first time that
Campbell's defense held an opponent scoreless in the first half of
any game. The Camels are looking for the third Pioneer Football
League victory since restarting the program in 2008.
Davidson (0-2) has started the season with a pair of losses. Last
week the Wildcats fell to Lenoir-Rhyne by a 41-13 score. Senior
running back Kenny Mantuo led Davidson with running for 93 yards
and picking up another 32 yards as a receiver. Mantuo leads the
team and ranks third in the conference with 145 yards rushing in
2010. The Wildcats have turned the ball over seven times in the
team's first two games. The defense has been stout for the Wildcats
lead the conference and are only allowing on average 286.50 yards a
contest. The team's defense also leads the conference with nine
tackles for loss. Junior defensive back Peter Kidwell leads the
team with 15 total tackles and 3.5 stops for loss.

Campbell's football program continues the longest homestand in the
program's history and hosts Georgia State on Saturday, Sept. 25, at
1 p.m. at Barker-Lane Stadium/Ed Gore Field. The game is the final
of a three-game homestand with Parents' Day being the featured
event.
