Volleyball Wins UNCW Tourney

WILMINGTON, N.C.-Campbell posted a 2-1 record in the UNC Wilmington Hilton Garden Inn Beach Bash to win the tournament, and Allyson Goldbach was named MVP Saturday inside Hanover Hall.

The Camels (4-11) collected wins over Elon and North Carolina State, falling only to the host Seahawks on Saturday night.

Goldbach earned tournament MVP honors after tallying 38 kills for a 3.17 per set average, adding 36 digs (3.00 per set) and nine aces. Junior Kelsey Campbell and freshman Heather Wilson joined Goldbach on the list. Campbell averaged 3.00 digs per set while recording six aces. Wilson, meanwhile, gathered 67 assists, 11 kills, 11 digs and eight aces.

Elon's Ali Deatsch and UNCW's Emily Mohrman also made the all-tournament squad.

After torching NC State for 15 kills and 13 digs earlier in the day, Goldbach added 10 kills and 14 digs against the Seahawks, but UNCW stole the finale, 3-1. Sophomore outside hitter Jordan Reaves also collected 10 scores, while senior Emily Werner registered a team-high 11 with 15 digs.

Caitlin Bendy and Annie Kobeski added eight and seven kills, respectively. The pair also posted six and two blocks. Wilson posted 25 assists and junior Hope Leatigaga added 18. Wilson also notched five aces, four digs, three kills and a pair of blocks.

The Camels tallied 15 aces against the Seahawks, a season-high, with Bendy scoring four and Goldbach three. Kelsey Campbell, who tallied nine digs, gathered two one-timers.

Leading the Seahawks was Emily Mohrman, who posted 11 kills on 20 errorless attempts, hitting .550 on the night. Kelli Clear added 10 kills with six digs, while Kimberly Friedl tallied seven kills and seven total blocks (four assisted, three solo). Samantha Seifert also notched seven kills for UNCW. Natalie Lahaie and Kelsey Bendig combined for 37 assists in the Seahawk win.

The Camels will be back in action Tuesday at home against North Carolina Central. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. inside the John W. Pope. Jr. Convocation Center.
