BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Campbell University cross country teams
open the 2010 season this Saturday at the USC Upstate Eye Opener
Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C.
The women's portion of the event will consist of a 5,000 meter race
over rolling terrain, which is slated to begin at 8 a.m. The
women's half of the event will use the traditional scoring system
in which the top five runners will determine the team scoring.
Rachel
Deline will be a name to watch out for this weekend. In six
events last season, the junior from Belleville, Ontario did not
finish below 20th, and notched four top ten
finishes.
The men's segment will consist of an 8,000 meter race, also through
rolling terrain. The men's portion of the event will use the
traditional scoring system as well and will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Both races are to be held at the Milliken Research Park.
Terence
Attema will look to begin his senior year similar to how he
began last season. Attema (Smithville, Ontario) won the first
event of last season, the Campbell Invitational, and followed that
up with consecutive second place finishes. DeLohnni
Nicol-Samuel heads into this weekend's event following a
stellar freshman season. Nicol-Samuel (Brandon, Manitoba) had four
top ten finishes and finished a team best 12th at the
Atlantic Sun Championships last season.
Campbell will get a preview of the Atlantic Sun Championship Course
this weekend as USC Upstate will also host the conference
championship on October 30.
After the Eye Opener Invitational, the Camels will head to
Wilmington, N.C., on Friday, September 10, for the UNCW Seahawk
Invitational. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
