CREEK, N.C.-Winners of three out of its last four contests,
Campbell will travel to Spartanburg, S.C. for its first Atlantic
Sun tilt, taking on USC Upstate on Wednesday.
The Camels will face USC Upstate at 7 p.m. The contest will be on
the campus of nearby Converse College, as USC Upstate continues
renovations to the Hodge Center.
Last time out, the Camels (5-11, 0-0 A-Sun) rolled to a 3-0 (26-24,
25-11, 25-23) win over North Carolina Central inside the John W.
Pope Jr. Convocation Center in Buies Creek. The senior duo of Caitlin
Bendy and Emily
Werner combined for 26 points in the triumph.
Bendy, a senior middle blocker, tallied eight blocks, including
seven in the second frame, adding eight kills on 10 errorless
swings (.800). The Stony Brook,, N.Y. native also posted an ace and
a dig in the win. Werner, a senior outside hitter, registered 11
kills with 14 digs for a double-double effort, chipping in two
blocks and an ace.
Junior middle Annie
Kobeski joined Bendy on the block party with seven denials of
her own, while senior outside hitter Allyson
Goldbach tallied seven kills. Junior libero Kelsey
Campbell tacked on 11 digs with a pair of aces.
Goldbach leads the CU offense on the season at 2.60 kills per set,
adding 2.43 digs, while Werner collects 2.41 kills and 1.95 digs.
Freshman setter Heather
Wilson is registering 4.28 assists a set with a team-high 22
service aces. Kobeski and Bendy add 0.84 and 0.81 blocks per frame,
respectively. Campbell is posting a team-best 3.25 digs per
set.
The Spartans are 6-9 on the season, dropping two of their last
three. Upstate took the early lead in the A-Sun standings, grabbing
a 3-1 (25-19, 25-22, 24-26, 25-15) win over Stetson.
Freshman outside hitter Cori Harris leads the Spartans at 3.10
kills and 2.49 digs per set, while junior outside Kelsie Queen adds
2.41 scores per frame. Sophomore setter Emily Sanders puts up 9.85
assists and 3.03 digs per set, and senior libero Megan Healey adds
3.92 digs per frame.
The Camels will be back in action at home on Friday at 7 p.m.,
welcoming East Tennessee State to Buies Creek for "Dig Pink"
night.
