BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Florida Gulf Coast ended Campbell's seven-game
winning streak with a 62-42 win Monday night inside the John W.
Pope Jr. Convocation Center, the first loss for the Lady Camels in
nearly a month.
The Lady Camels fall to 8-11 overall and 7-3 in Atlantic Sun play
with the loss, while FGCU moves to 15-1 on the season and 8-1 in
conference games.
The Eagles converted 23 CU turnovers into 22 points and held the
Lady Camels without a three point field goal for the first time
this season. FGCU, meanwhile, hit 11-of-32 attempts from distance,
tying the most threes hit against Campbell this season (at East
Tennessee State, 11-24, 12/20/10).
Sophomore forward Jazmine
Cooper paced CU with 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting, tying a
career-high, while chipping in four rebounds. Junior guard Amanda
O'Neill tallied eight points with three boards and a pair of
steals. Lauren

Baker tacked on four points apiece, adding seven and five
rebounds, respectively. The duo also combined for five assists.
Junior guard Eglah Griffin led FGCU with a game-high 16 points,
hitting 4-of-8 three point attempts. Junior guard Kelsey Jacobson
joined Griffin in double figures with 10 points, adding four
rebounds and four assists.
Sarah Hansen and Courtney Chihil registered eight and seven points,
while Shannon Murphy and Lerrin Cook rounded out the balanced Eagle
attack with six each.
FGCU jumped on top early with a 25-10 run to open the game, taking
a 15 point advantage at the 8:45 mark on a Cook trey. That lead
quickly ballooned to 21 with 1:54 to go in the half, as Nicoya
Jackson drained a jumper to put FGCU ahead 35-14.
An O'Neill lay-in brought the Lady Camels within 19, at 35-16, by
the half.
The Eagles then opened the second half with an 11-4 run to push to
their largest lead of the game at 46-20 with 14:58 to play, as
Jacobson hit one of her two threes.
The Lady Camels, however, stormed back with a 16-2 run over the
next 6:28, led by seven points from Cooper, narrowing the FGCU lead
to 48-36 with 8:30 remaining.
The Eagles then took advantage of three-straight empty CU
possessions, as Jacobson buried her second three point attempt to
put FGCU back up 51-36 with 5:55 to play. The Eagles ended the game
on a 14-6 spurt to secure the 62-42 win.
The Lady Camels will head to Jacksonville, Fla. next weekend,
taking on North Florida and Jacksonville on the road.
