LYNCHBURG,
Va. - Sophomore Diego
Lawrence won the long jump event at the Liberty Open for the
second consecutive year, setting a new indoor personal best of 7.31
meters, to highlight Day 2 for Campbell inside the Tolsma Indoor
Track Center. The Camels had 30 top-10 overall
finishes at the event, including seven second place
showings.
Lawrence
also took fifth in the 60 meter dash with a personal best time of
6.96 seconds and third in the 200 meter dash thanks to another
personal best of 22.57 seconds. Junior Rashad
Campbell placed second in the 60 (6.86 seconds) and 200 Meter
Dashes (22.33 seconds), setting a personal best in the 60 meter
dash.
Junior Courtney
Kinlaw and sophomore Nadia
Natt advanced to the finals of the 60 meter dash on the women's
side. Kinlaw finished fifth with a mark of 7.85
seconds, while Natt took eighth with a time of 7.99
seconds. Kinlaw also took second in the long jump
with a 5.66 meter mark, and Natt placed fifth with a 5.47 meter
jump.
Natt and
Kinlaw also finished well in the triple jump. Natt
had a mark of 11.88 meters and Kinlaw had one of 11.41 meters to
finish second and sixth respectively.
Adoniss
Jones began his senior campaign with a fourth place finish in
the 60 meter hurdles with an 8.13 second effort.
Jayshawn
Campbell gave the Camels another top-five finish with a fourth
place showing in the 400 meters thanks to a time of 51.17
seconds.
Ashley
Matthews finished second in the women's mile run with a time of
5:12.64 while Rachel
Deline finished two spots behind her teammate with a mark of
5:18.31. Deline also took third in the 3000 meters
with a time of 10:33.90
Matthews
placed fifth in the 800 meters with a time of
2:25.50. On the men's side in the same event, Chris
Schulist finished second with a time of 2:00.16.
The freshman also claimed third in the mile run with a time of
4:25.35.
In the
men's 4x400 meter relay, the CU team of Jayshawn Campbell, Adoniss
Jones, Denzel
Jones, and Andres
Perez placed fifth with a time of 3:26.54.
Senior Robert
Brunson placed fourth in the long jump with a 7.02 meter
jump. Brunson also took sixth in the triple jump with
a 13.85 meter mark.
The Camels
are in action again next weekend at the Niswonger Invitational,
hosted by ETSU, February 4-5.
