BOONE, N.C. - The Campbell wrestling team squared off with nationally-ranked Virginia Tech and Appalachian State Tuesday night and dropped a pair of dual matches inside Varsity Gym.

Virginia Tech, ranked No. 9 in this week's Intermat Top 25 Poll, won all ten individual matches to defeat Campbell 48-0, and Appalachian State won seven individual bouts to claim a 33-12 victory.

Virginia Tech moves to 8-2 and Appalachian State improves to 4-5 on the season in dual competition. Campbell falls to 0-5.

"We're seeing some growth, but we still have a long ways to go," said first-year head coach Joe Boardwine. "I was actually pleased with the way we rebounded and competed against Appalachian State after getting beaten by Virginia Tech. It's a loss but we were right in the hunt for several matches, and hopefully we can win those next time."

Campbell jumped ahead of ASU after redshirt freshman Tanner Bidelspach's 5-1 decision over Tony Gravely at 125 pounds, but the Mountaineers won the next four bouts to seize control of the contest. Jake Fose won a narrow 3-1 decision over Travis Puckett in the 157 pound spot, and senior Parker Burns pinned Appalachian's Marc Tyson at heavyweight for CU.

The Camels return to action when they travel to Raleigh on Saturday for a quartet of duals. CU takes on North Dakota State, Anderson, North Carolina State, and Mercyhurst in a series of duals beginning at 11 a.m.
