CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the first time in her career Campbell swimmer Charlotte Cornet was named the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Women's Swimmer of the Week, the league announced on Oct. 19 for the week of action from Oct. 10-17. The honor is also the first for a Campbell swimmer this season and the fourth time the last two years that a CU swimmer has been recognized.
Cornet picked up a pair of individual victories and a team relay win for Campbell, along with a third-place finish in the Camels' dual meet victories over Queens University and College of Charleston. In the 200 medley relay, Cornet aided the team to the victory and season-best time of 1:50.11. She won the 100 breast in another season-best time of 1:07.14. Cornet continued her strong meet and finished first while setting a season-best time of 2:27.32 in the 200 breast. She completed her afternoon placing third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.84. The sophomore is tied for the team lead with five top-three finishes and tied for the team lead with two individual victories.
Cornet is one of three active Campbell swimmers to be named CCSA Swimmer of the Week the last two seasons joining fellow sophomore Kyle Warne (Nov. 10, 2010 and Feb. 2, 2011) and Cheriesse Campbell (Feb. 9, 2011).
The Camels will next be in action and travels to Greensboro, N.C. to take on North Carolina A&T on Oct. 21 at 6 p.m.
