Vaita Guillaume named Big South Conference men's golfer of the week

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Vaita Guillaume of Campbell University has been named Choice Hotels Big South Conference Men's Golfer of the Week.  The senior from Papeete, Tahiti shared the award with Kristopher Gray of Gardner-Webb and Matt Sizemore of Presbyterian.

Guillaume, Gray and Sizemore all claimed medalist honors and each finished their respective 54-hole tournaments 7-under par.  Gray and Sizemore tied for first at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate (par 70, 6,718 yards) at 7-under par 203.

Guillaume won his first collegiate tournament with a 7-under par 206 (72-67-67) Tuesday at the Georgetown Intercollegiate (par 71, 6,640 yards).  He was the lone golfer in the 67-player field under par for the tournament and won by nine strokes.

His 54-hole total is a career-best and the sixth-lowest in school history.  Guillaume led the field with 13 birdies, including seven during Tuesday's final round at the par-71, 6640-yard Members Club at Four Streams in Beallsville, Md.

During Guillaume's career, he finished second three times previously – at the 2009 Atlantic Sun Championship, the 2010 Towson Invitational and 2011 Charleston Shootout.

Guillaume played the final 36 holes at 8-under and was one of only two to break par during Tuesday's final round.

The performance marked Guillaume's third top-10 finish in four tournaments this fall. It was also his 15th career top-10 showing.

Campbell has finished among the top 4 teams in each of its events this fall -- 1st at the Golfweek Program Challenge, T4th at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, 2nd at The Big Five Invitational, 4th at the Georgetown Intercollegiate.

The Camels close out their fall schedule Oct. 30-Nov. 1 at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate.
