Campbell Baseball volunteers time with the Miracle League of Johnston County

Smithfield, N.C. - The Campbell University baseball team recently spent an evening with the kids and volunteers of the Miracle League of Johnston County in Smithfield, N.C.  This special night consisted of each member of the CU baseball team pairing up with a "buddy" as they assisted them in playing the game of baseball in front of a great crowd of family, fans and supporters.

"This was a special night for our program," Campbell head baseball coach Greg Goff said. "Our guys did a great job with the kids and created a very exciting night of baseball. We feel so blessed to have the opportunity to work with the Miracle League Organization."

The Miracle League was founded in 1998 in Georgia and has spread throughout the country with the mission of the organization being to provide opportunities for all children to play baseball regardless of their disability. Currently, there are more than 200 Miracle League sites across the country, including Puerto Rico.

This community service event is the first of several scheduled throughout the academic year for the baseball team, who will volunteer their services at multiple community events coming up.

The CU baseball team will be holding team scrimmages at Taylor Field on Friday, Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 22 at 5 p.m.  All scrimmages are open to the public.  The fall season will conclude on November 2nd.
