CONWAY, S.C.-Campbell sophomores Ashley Matthews and Chris Schulist were both honored as members of the Big South Cross Country All-Academic teams Saturday at the conference's championship meet.
Matthews, a biology major from Raleigh, N.C., has posted a 3.87 GPA. Matthews owns the Camels' fourth-best 5K time this season, and took 19th in Saturday's 5K conference championship meet with a time of 18:42. The honor is Matthews' third after earning Atlantic Sun All-Academic accolades in cross country and track & field as a freshman.
Schulist owns a 3.45 GPA, also claiming academic all-league honors for the third time after making both cross country and track & field teams in the Atlantic Sun as a rookie in 2010. The pre-law English major placed 29th with a time of 26:06 in Saturday's 8K championship.
Both Campbell's men's and women's teams placed fourth on the day.
Campbell will be back on the trails on Nov. 12 at the NCAA Regionals in Louisville, Ky.
