Leppikangas Named Big South Conference Attacker Of The Week

Charlotte, N.C. - Pirjo Leppikangas (Helsinki, Finland) has been named the Big South's Attacker of the Week for women's soccer. The senior midfielder had an incredible week on the pitch, scoring four goals, including two game-winners to move into a tie for the conference lead in points (which she shares with teammate Ashley Clark).

The week got off to a quick start for Leppikangas, who recorded a hat trick against Gardner-Webb in a 3-0 home victory Thursday night. The feat was the first hat trick for the CU women's soccer program since Bonnie Trader scores three goals against Charleston Southern on October 6th, 1998.

Leppikangas continued her stellar play Saturday night at Winthrop, scoring another game-winning goal to lead the Camels to a 4-1 triumph. Head coach Todd Clark believes his midfielder's play was very deserving of the award. "I applaud the BSC for recognizing Pirjo's incredible week. It would have been easy to give the honor to someone else since we've had the blessing of other recognition already, but her week was just impossible to ignore."

"The best part for Fighting Camel fans is that not only has Pirjo got more to give, but she has plenty of help too. She is "meidän suosikki mummo!"

Campbell returns to actions Thursday night at home against UNC Asheville. First kick is at 7:00 p.m. The Camels currently sit atop the Big South standings at 2-0, with an 8-3 overall record.
