Campbell falls 5-1 at 10th-ranked Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – Ashton Bennett and Pedro Ribeiro each scored twice and 10th-ranked Coastal Carolina defeated Campbell 5-1 Saturday in Big South Conference men's soccer action.

The Chanticleers (16-2, 9-0) won their 12th-straight outing and enter next week's Big South tournament as the top seed.  Campbell (9-8-2, 5-4-0) lost its second-consecutive contest and will carry the third seed into Wednesday's Big South quarterfinal at Boiling Springs, N.C.

Coastal entered the game as the nation's top-ranked scoring team (3.06 goals per game) and scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the final period to break a 1-1 tie.

Campbell dropped to 4-12-1 against nationally-ranked opponents since 2005, 0-2-1 this year.

Ben Iiames put the Camels in front in the 37th minute when he scored off a Keegan Terry cross.

However, the Chanticleers equalized just 42 seconds before intermission when Ribeiro netted his sixth strike of the year on a shot from just outside the box.

The nation's leading scorer, Bennett, scored his 20th and 21st goals of the year in the 48th and 55th minutes to put the Chanticleers in front.

Ribeiro added his second of the game on an overhead kick in the 67th minute.  Ricky Garbanzo tacked on the final goal in the 69th minute.

Coastal finished with a 24-7 advantage in shots, 9-3 in shots on target.  Ethan Hall had four saves in the Camel nets.  Scott Angevine and Montrell Morgan each had one save for Coastal.
