Lisbeth Brooks and Johanne Svendsen sign with Campbell women's golf team

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell University women's golf coach John Crooks has announced the signing of Lisbeth Brooks and Johanne Svendsen to athletics grants-in-aid.

Brooks is ranked among the top-150 high school seniors in the class of 2011 by the Junior Golf Scoreboard. Svendsen has been a member of the Danish National Junior Team since 2008. They will join the Fighting Camel program in the fall of 2011.

A senior at Waunakee (Wisc.) High School, Brooks led her team to the 2010 state sectional, regional and conference championship while earning first-team all-state recognition. She is a four-time all-conference performer and three-time league player of the year.

Brooks also was named to the academic all-state team by the Wisconsin High School Golf Coaches Association. Last summer, she won a singles match as Wisconsin captured a fifth-straight Wisconsin-Minnesota Cup championship.

A native of Roskilde, Denmark, Svendsen has been selected to play in the European Young Masters (twice), the British Junior Open and Girls European Tam Championship. She was also a member of the Danish Junior Golf Academy from 2006-08.

In 2010, Svendsen finished among the top-10 individuals five times in Danish tournaments, including a fourth-place showing at the Ladies Royal Season Final. She won the Girls Faxe Kondi season final in 2007 and finished second in the 2008 Rudersdal Open.

Now in his 21st year as the men's head golf coach and 20th in charge of the women's program at Campbell University, John Crooks is one of the top collegiate golf coaches in the country. In January 2006, the Winston-Salem, N.C., native was inducted into the National Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

During his tenure, Crooks has led the women's team to 10 conference titles and 14 NCAA Regional appearances. His women's teams have earned regional berths 11 times in the last 13 years.

Crooks has also directed the Camel men to five conference championships, including the 1999 and 2009 Atlantic Sun Conference titles, plus three Big South Conference crowns. The Campbell men made their first NCAA Regional team appearance in 2009 after CU individuals earned regional berths on four previous occasions.

Named conference coach of the year 14 times for either the men's or women's program in the last 20 years, Crooks' men's teams have claimed 39 team titles and his women have won 61 tournaments.

Coach Crooks has directed 125 golfers to all-conference honors during his tenure and 166 individuals to all-academic honors. He has mentored dozens of professionals, including PGA Tour member David Mathis and multiple FUTURES Tour members.

Campbell opens the spring segment of its 2010-11 schedule Feb. 20-21 at the Kiawah Island (S.C.) Classic.
