BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Campbell will look to improve its positioning in
the Atlantic Sun conference standings as the Lady Camels host
Lipscomb on Monday at 7 p.m. inside the Pope Center. Monday's
contest will be Campbell's "Pink Zone" game, raising breast cancer
awareness on the court, across campus and in the community.
Campbell will donate three-quarters of its profits from Monday's
game to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The WBCA Pink Zone® initiative
is a global, unified effort for the WBCA nation of coaches to
assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across
campuses, in communities and beyond. Donations will also be
accepted at the game for Relay for Life.
T-shirts will be given to the first 300 students in attendance,
sponsored by the Campbell Campus Activities Board (CAB). This is
Campbell's fifth year as a participant in the event.
Since winning seven games in a row in January, Campbell (10-13, 9-6
A-Sun) has dropped four of its last six outings, but has already
clinch a berth to March's A-Sun Tournament. The Lady Camels are
currently tied for the second slot in the tourney with Stetson and
North Florida. CU split the season series with UNF and won its only
meeting so far with Stetson. The Hatters will host Campbell on
Thursday in DeLand, Fla.
On Saturday, Belmont defeated CU 54-45 in Buies Creek, posting a
decisive 10-2 run midway through the second half and holding the
Lady Camels to 33 percent shooting on the game.
Sophomore forward Jazmine
Cooper led Campbell with 16 points and 10 rebounds, her first
double-double of the season and second of her career. The
Fayetteville, N.C. native tied her career-best with 16 points, set
in the Lady Camels' last game (at Kennesaw State Feb. 7). Cooper
added three steals and two blocks in the loss.
Tonisha
Baker, a sophomore guard, joined Cooper in double figures with
12 points and seven rebounds, adding three assists. Lauren
Yesh and Ashley
James both tacked on six points apiece for Campbell.
Baker leads Campbell at 11.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game on
the season. Cooper, how has tallied 16 points in each of her last
two games, averages 9.3 a game with 5.9 boards. Yesh gathers 9.0
points and 6.4 rebounds per game for the Lady Camels.
Lipscomb (8-16, 5-10 A-Sun) comes into Buies Creek on a four game
losing streak after a 74-59 setback at Jacksonville on Feb. 5. In
the Bisons' last 10 games, the team has won only once, a 73-59 win
over Belmont.
Senior guard Jenna Bartsokas leads the Bisons in scoring at 15.3
points per game, while Anna Bowers, a junior guard, adds 13.4
points a contest.
In the teams' previous meeting in Nashville, Tenn., senior guard Courtney
Cannon led the Lady Camels to an 81-66 win with a career-high
22 points. Yesh also posted 14 points with eight boards in the CU
win.
Bowers led three Bisons in double figures with 16 points, all in
the second half. Bartsokas also posted 13 points with three
rebounds and three assists, while junior post Brittany Duerk
tallied 12 points and eight rebounds.
Campbell holds an 8-7 edge on the all-time series with the Bisons,
having won the past four meetings. The Lady Camels are 5-2 all-time
against LU at home.
Next up for CU will be its final road swing of the regular season,
heading to the Sunshine State for meetings at Stetson (2/17) and
Florida Gulf Coast (2/19).
