Swimming Ranked Seventh After First Day of CCSA Championship; Cheriesse Campbell Breaks 500 Free Record

ATHENS, Ga. - Campbell's swimming team is ranked seventh after the first day of the CCSA Championship with 76 total points. The Camels were led on the first day by freshman Cheriesse Campbell, who shattered her previous school record in the 500 free. Fellow freshman Kaitlyn Burnette also broke the 100 backstroke with her time of 58.58 attained in the exhibitioned 'C' 400 medley relay.

Cheriesse Campbell swam a 4:57.40 in the finals of the 500 free to finish just out of the top three and in fourth place. Her time bested her previous record by nearly six seconds of 5:03.85 set earlier this season.

The Campbell 200 free relay team of Burnette, sophomore Kaitlyn Tunstall, freshman Charlotte Cornet and senior Ashlyn Stumpf set the school record in their event with a time of 1:37.13. The group finished fifth in the event and beat last year's mark, also set at the CCSA's, of 1:38.45. Burnette broke the individual record in the 100 backstroke with her time of 58.58 in the exhibitioned 'C' 400 medley relay.

The CU 400 medley relay team of Burnette, Cornet, Campbell and Stumpf set a season-best time of 4:00.33 in finishing eighth in the event.

Other top finishers for Campbell during the first day include Stumpf placing 10th in the 50 free in a season best time of 24.10.

Florida Gulf Coast leads the women's competition with 256.5 points after the first day.

Among the events to be contest during the second day of competition are the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breast, 100 backstroke, 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay.
