AUBURN, Ala. - The Campbell softball team (5-3) were limited to two
hits as Auburn (6-0) defeated CU by 3-1 margin in the team's second
game of the Tiger Invitational on Friday, Feb. 18, at Jane B. Moore
Field.
Campbell's Brittany
Arnn (2-1) was the tough-luck loser as she allowed just two
runs (one earned) in four innings worked. Auburn's Angel Brunner
(2-0) picked up her second win of the season and allowed just two
hits in her complete game. Campbell senior Katie
Woodcock pitched three effective innings in relief for CU where
she allowed just one unearned run.
CU's Arnn pitched out of a difficult two-out situation in the
fourth inning. Kelsey Cartwright reached on a two-out double and
then stole third. Arnn was up to the challenge and struck out
Elizabeth Eisterhold to keep the game scoreless.
The Camels scored first and broke through for a run in the bottom
of the frame. Senior Katie
Hinton lead off the frame with a walk, then stole second and
scored on senior Amanda
Miller's single to center. The hit was CU's first of the
game.
The Tigers took the lead in the top of the fifth with three runs.
Kyndall White began the rally with a single. Morgan Murphy then
reached on fielding error. A fielder's choice sacrifice bunt from
Katie Colton loaded the bases. Kelley Smiley tied the game with a
sacrifice fly that allowed White to score. A bunt single from
Lauren Guzman allowed Murphy to race in from third and gave Auburn
the lead. A ground out from Morgan Estell scored Colton with the
third run of the inning.
Campbell attempted to rally in the sixth. Senior Keeli Michael
reached third on a drop third strike. A sacrifice moved her to
second but she could get no farther as the last two batters were
retired in order.
CU attempted to put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the
seventh. Freshman Raven
Lee pushed a double down the right field line. A walk to junior
Taylor
McGee put two runners aboard. The final out was recorded in a
force out at third as Auburn held on for a 3-1 win.
The Camels continue play in the tournament and takes McNeese State
on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. est.
