AUBURN, Ala. - The Campbell softball team (6-3) once again reached
double figures in runs scored in an 11-1 victory over McNeese State
(2-6) on Saturday, Feb. 19, at Jane B. Moore Field during the
second day of the Tiger Invitational. Four different Campbell
players recorded multiple RBI performances in the win.
Senior Katie
Woodcock (1-0), in her first career start, earned the victory
and only allowed three hits and one unearned run. Freshman Olivia
Scarborough pitched the final inning for Campbell with two
strikeouts.
The loss went to McNeese State's Meagan Bond (1-4), who allowed two
runs in one-third of an inning.
Freshman Raven
Lee led the team with three RBIs and a home run. Junior Taylor
McGee, senior Lizzie
Goldbach and senior Keeli
Michael all had two runs driven in. The Camels again used the
base on balls to their advantage drawing six walks and were also
hit by a pair of pitches.
The Camels started the scoring off with two runs in the first
inning. Senior Amanda
Miller began the game with a lead-off walk. Sophomore Sarah
Forgacs and junior Christina
Melton were then hit by pitches to load the bases. McGee then
walked to force in Miller with the first run. A walk to senior Lauren
Stephan allowed Forgacs to cross the plate with the second
tally.
McNeese State cut the deficit in half in the top of the second.
Stacey Conley reached on a fielding error. She moved to second on a
wild pitch and third on a sacrifice bunt. She then scored the
Cowgirls' first run on Katie Roux's single to center.
CU added four to the lead in the second. Senior Katie
Hinton and Miller both walked. A throwing error on the pitcher
off the fielder's choice from Melton loaded the bases. McGee drove
in the first run with her fielder's choice grounder in which she
also reached on the pitcher's error. Goldbach followed with a
double to right to plate Miller and Melton. The Camels added the
team's fourth run of the inning on senior Keeli
Michael's infield single.
The Campbell offense added five in the fourth. Freshman Katie
Andrews started the rally with a pinch hit walk. Forgacs was then
reinserted for her and stole second. Melton followed with a single
to right to score Forgacs from second. Goldbach then reached on a
fielder's choice in which Melton was also safe at second. Michael
followed with a double to score Goldbach. Lee then crushed her
second home run of the season to give CU an 11-1 advantage in what
would be the final score.
