Swimming Finishes Eighth At CCSA Championship; Cheriesse Campbell Turns In All-Conference Performance

ATHENS, Ga. - Campbell's swimming team finished eighth at the 2011 CCSA Championship with a total of 176 points. Freshman Cheriesse Campbell had a big day in earning a place on the 1,650 free all-conference team.

Cheriesse Campbell's time of 17:06.89 was a school record performance that shattered her previous record of 17:27.96. Her time also allowed her to finish third in the event and earn an all-conference selection. She is just the second Campbell swimmer to ever achieve all-conference status behind Heidi Shallow. Shallow earned a pair of all-conference selection in 2008 (100 and 200 breast) and one in 2009 (200 breast).

CU set three school records on the second day and eight total over the three days of competition. On the final day, freshman Kaitlyn Burnette set the school record in the 200 back with a time of 2:08.62. The previous school record she broke was set by Kelly Mullican during the 2009 season (2:09.92).

The Camel relay team of Burnette, freshman Kylie Warne, Cheriesse Campbell and senior Ashlyn Stumpf swam a 3:34.93 in the 400 free relay. The time bested the previous mark of 3:35.56 set in 2009.

Florida Gulf Coast won the 2011 CCSA Championship with 879.5 overall points.
