ATHENS, Ga. - Campbell's swimming team finished eighth at the 2011
CCSA Championship with a total of 176 points. Freshman Cheriesse
Campbell had a big day in earning a place on the 1,650 free
all-conference team.
Cheriesse
Campbell's time of 17:06.89 was a school record performance
that shattered her previous record of 17:27.96. Her time also
allowed her to finish third in the event and earn an all-conference
selection. She is just the second Campbell swimmer to ever achieve
all-conference status behind Heidi Shallow. Shallow earned a pair
of all-conference selection in 2008 (100 and 200 breast) and one in
2009 (200 breast).
CU set three school records on the second day and eight total over
the three days of competition. On the final day, freshman Kaitlyn
Burnette set the school record in the 200 back with a time of
2:08.62. The previous school record she broke was set by Kelly
Mullican during the 2009 season (2:09.92).
The Camel relay team of Burnette, freshman Kylie
Warne, Cheriesse
Campbell and senior Ashlyn
Stumpf swam a 3:34.93 in the 400 free relay. The time bested
the previous mark of 3:35.56 set in 2009.
