BUIES CREEK, N.C.-After winning three out of four on opening
weekend, Campbell travels to Duke and hosts UNC Asheville during
2011's first full week of competition.

The
Camels opened the 2011 season with four contests against North
Carolina A&T. After dropping game one 14-9, Campbell rallied to
outscore the Aggies 40-17 with 15-3, 13-8 and 12-6 wins.
Senior Alan
Denman paced the Camels with a .583 average at the plate
against the Aggies, posting two doubles, a home run and four RBI
while scoring eight times. Junior Josh
Holskey registered a .538 average against A&T with a homer
and five RBI, while junior Jimmy
Brenneman posted a .462 average with eight runs scored, two
triples and five stolen bases.
While the CU offense put up 12.25 runs per game in the series, the
Camel pitching posted a 6.87 ERA. Freshman Hector
Cedano led the Camels on the mound with a win in his first
career start. Cedano, a pitcher from Miami, Fla., tossed 6.0
innings, including 3.2 scoreless, fanning two and scattering six
hits, while allowing one run. Junior Jake
Smith struck out a team-high seven on the weekend.
The Camels recorded a stellar .473 team on-base percentage in the
four game set, posting 51 hits while collecting 12 walks. CU
batters were also hit by 17 pitches over 30 innings.

Setting High Career Marks
Senior Ellis
Lowe is on the verge of setting several long-standing program
records, including at-bats, runs scored, hits, doubles, runs batted
in and total bases. Two of those mark, hits and doubles, could fall
this week. Lowe needs just four two-baggers to tie the school
record of 58 held by J.C. Hendrix (1989-92) and Zach
Johnson (2008-10). The senior needs 10 hits to knot Kent Cox's
(1993-96) record of 269.

the Blue Devils
Duke
(2-1) opened the 2011 season at home against Richmond, wrapping a
pair of wins, 6-5 and 7-0, around a 9-8 loss to the Spiders. Ryan
Munger leads the Blue Devils so far on the season with a .500
average at the plate. Chris Marconcini plated a team-best five over
the weekend, batting .400 with two runs scored. Jordan Betts (.417
BA, two RBI), Will Piwnica-Worms (.333 BA, two 2B) and Jeff Kremer
(.333 BA, three RBI) round out a handful of Devils hitting over
.300. Duke has recorded seven extra base hits, without a home run.
The Camels tallied 16 extra base hits (11 2B, three 3B, two HR), by
comparison.
Scouting
the Bulldogs
UNC
Asheville also opened the season at home, registering a 3-0 start
over Murray State (15-11, 15-5, 7-6). Robert McIntosh leads the
Bulldogs on the season with a .750 average, going 6-for-8 at the
dish over the weekend with two RBI and three runs scored. Grant
Gajdosz also posted a 7-for-11 clip (.636), while knocking in four
by way of three doubles. Eli Miller and Danny Baatz both collected
a team-high five RBI.
Against
NC Competition
After
take three of four games over North Carolina A&T over the
opening weekend, Campbell head coach Greg
Goff, in his fourth year with the Camels, extended his record
against in-state foes to 25-8. Campbell defeated traditional NC
powers East Carolina and NC State last season, and have 14 more
contests against Tar Heel based competition left this season,
including four games this week.

Next up
for the Camels will be a trip to East Carolina on March 1, followed
by Campbell's Atlantic Sun opener at Kennesaw State. The Camels
will travel to Kennesaw, Ga. for a three-game slate with the Owls,
set for March 5-6.
