BUIES CREEK, N.C.-After pouring in a near triple-double, then
following with a 30 point outing on the way to a 2-0 week for the
Lady Camels, Campbell's Tonisha
Baker has been named the Atlantic Sun's Player of the Week.
"It's great to see Tonisha playing her best basketball this time of
year," said Lady Camel head coach Wanda
Watkins. "She has certainly stepped it up a notch recently,
especially with her performances this past week. I am very happy to
see her honored in this manner. I feel that she is very
worthy."
Against East Tennessee State on Thursday, Baker paced the Lady
Camels with a game-high 16 points, adding nine rebounds and a
career-high nine assists, narrowly missing a triple double, in a
60-57 win over the Buccaneers. The win was Campbell's first in 12
tries over ETSU, as Baker scored 12 of her game-high 16 in the
second half.
On Saturday against USC Upstate, Campbell's Senior Day, the
sophomore fueled a blistering Lady Camel offense that posted a Gore
Arena record 98 points in a 98-70 win over the Spartans with 30
points.
Baker is the first Lady Camel to reach 30 points in a single game
since April Cromartie scored 35 against Belmont on Dec. 1, 2001.
The High Point, N.C. native added six rebounds, three assists and
three steals in the win, also registering an astounding 12-for-15
mark from the field.
In all, she averaged 23.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.5
steals per game for the Lady Camels.
Campbell's 98 points mark the most for the program since hitting
the century mark in a 107-90 win over Florida Atlantic on Feb. 13,
2003. The Lady Camels posted 90 points once earlier this season,
defeating Stetson 93-80 on Jan. 22 in Buies Creek.
Baker leads the Lady Camels on the season at 11.9 points and 6.2
rebounds per game. The sophomore has posed 20 or more points four
times this season, including twice in A-Sun play.
With the undefeated week, the Lady Camels clinched the No. 3 seed
in this week's A-Sun Tournament in Macon, Ga. Campbell is slated to
face No. 6 Belmont on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. inside Mercer's
University Center.
