CHARLOTTE, N.C. - For the second consecutive week and the third
time this season a Campbell swimmer, Cheriesse
Campbell, has been named the Coastal Collegiate Swimming
Association Women's Swimmer of the Week. The league announced that
Cheriesse
Campbell had captured its weekly award for the week of action
from Jan. 31-Feb. 5 in CU last week of regular season
competition.
Campbell gathered first and second place finish, while aiding the
winning 400 free relay team on Feb. 5 at UNC Wilmington. The
Sunrise, Fla. native began her day with a second-place finish in
the 200 free (1:56.24). She then went on to win the 500 free in a
time of 5:11.23. She completed her day by swimming the lead-off leg
of the first-place 400 relay team (3:45.45).
Campbell has had an outstanding freshman season for the Camels and
currently leads the team with 27 top-three finishes. She has also
set school records in the 200 free (1:54.31), 500 free (5:03.85),
800 free (9:32.86), 1,000 free (10:30.32), 1650 free (17:27.96) and
100 butterfly (58.23).
Campbell recognition is the third time a CU swimmer has captured a
weekly conference swimming award this season. Fellow freshman Kylie
Warne was named the CCSA's Women's Swimmer of the Week on both
Nov. 10 and Feb. 2. Warne and Campbell are two of the four active
members of Campbell's swim team to be honored by the CCSA in their
careers along with senior Casey
Umberger (Feb. 17, 2009) and Ashlyn Stumpf (Oct. 15, 2008).
The Camels will next be in action and compete at the CCSA
Conference Championship from Feb. 17-21 in Athens, Ga.
