BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Coming off a runner-up showing at the
Charleston Shootout, Vaita Guillaume of Campbell University has
been named Atlantic Sun Conference men's golfer of the week.
The junior from Papeete, Tahiti finished 2nd out of 75 golfers in
the Charleston Shootout, leading the Camels to a 4th-place finish
(behind Baylor, College of Charleston and Radford) in the 15-school
field at the Links at Stono Ferry in Hollywood, S.C.
Guillaume tied the school record with an 8-under-par, opening round
64, his collegiate career low. He finished the event at
6-under-par 210 (64-71-75), one stroke behind individual champ
Jacobo Pastor of CSU and of only 4 golfers in the field to shoot in
red numbers.
Guillaume went 4-0 in Campbell's opening tournament of the Spring,
The Match Play, last month at Lutz, Fla., with victories over
players from Loyola (Md.), Kennesaw State, Notre Dame and
Connecticut.
On the season, Guillaume owns a 71.7 stroke average and a pair of
top-10 finishes.
The Camels return to action on Sunday with the opening round of the
Barefoot at the Beach tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
