WILMINGTON, N.C. - Campbell's softball team (26-19) took the second
game of its doubleheader with UNC Wilmington (11-31) by a 2-0 score
behind the strong pitching of freshman Olivia
Scarborough on April 12 at Boseman Field. Senior Amanda
Miller drove in both runs for the Camels. The win was the 600th
in the coaching career of head coach Drew Peterson.
Scarborough (3-2) was the story of the game in throwing the first
shutout of her career. Scarborough allowed three hits with four
strikeouts in the game. The complete game was the second of her
career. Amanda Aditays (5-10) allowed just two runs in throwing a
complete game for UNCW.
The Camels scored first with a run in the first inning. Senior Keeli
Michael started the inning with a walk. She stole second, moved
to third on a ground out and scored on Miller's short single to
center field.
Miller homered to lead off the third inning to double the margin.
The home run was her fourth of the season.
Campbell threatened in the fourth inning as senior Lauren
Stephan and junior Christina
Melton were hit by pitches. Michael then singled to left. On
the play though, Stephan was thrown out after reaching third when
she rounded the bag a little overly aggressively.
UNCW nearly broke through for a run in the sixth inning. Ashley
Shingleton reached on a fielding error from the CU third baseman.
She moved to second on a wild pitch and took third on a sacrifice
bunt. After a strikeout and walk, Scarborough induced a lineout to
end the potentially troubling inning.
The Camels travels to Florida for a pair of games in Jacksonville.
CU is scheduled to take on North Florida on April 15 starting at 5
p.m. The Camels will then take on Jacksonville on April 16 at 1
p.m.
