DeLAND,
FLA. -- Sarah Bejgrowicz and Michelle Koh earned all-tournament
honors and Campbell placed second in the Atlantic Sun Conference
women's golf championship following Wednesday's final round at
Victoria Hills.
Led by individual medalist Alex Buelow, Stetson rallied from a
three-stroke deficit to claim its third-straight A-Sun team title.
The "three-peat" marked the first time an A-Sun school has won
three-consecutive women's golf titles since Campbell accomplished
the feat in 1996, '97 and '98.
Bejgrowicz and Koh tied for third place and freshman Kaylin Yost
tied for seventh for the Camels, who concluded the 54-hole event at
906 strokes (297-303-306), 12 behind Stetson (298-305-291-894),
which produced the low team round of the tournament on
Wednesday.
Kennesaw State (294-308-315-917), East Tennessee State
(298-305-314-917) and Florida Gulf Coast (306-308-303-917) tied for
third in the 10-school field.
A junior from Kuantan, Malaysia, Koh shot 71-76-76-223 to tie
Bejgrowicz for third place, seven strokes behind Buelow
(71-74-71-216). Fabienne Haremza of Florida Gulf Coast
(75-72-74-221) finished second.
Koh birdied the 18th hole to produce the best tournament finish of
her three-year collegiate career. She had 11 birdies in the event
and topped the fourth-place performances she had at the 2009
Jacksonville Invitational and the Palmetto Intercollegiate last
fall.
Bejgrowicz, a senior from Lancaster, Pa., finished the event at
72-76-75-223 and produced her third-consecutive top-10 A-Sun finish
following eighth-place ties in 2009 and 2010.
Briana Carlson of Florida Gulf Coast (76-75-73-224) and Lauren Cate
of Stetson (77-75-72-224) tied for fifth place and joined Buelow,
Haremza, Bejgrowicz and Koh on the all-tournament team.
A freshman from Pembroke Pines, Fla., Yost produced the first
top-10 individual finish of her collegiate career by improving each
round (77-76-73-226) on the par-72, 6137-yard Victoria Hills
layout. She closed the day with a pair of birdies and four pars
over her final six holes.
Campbell senior Sandra Angulo finished 29th (77-75-85-237) and
freshman Maria Jose Benavides tied for 36th place
(81-79-82-242).
The host school has won each of the last five Atlantic Sun titles,
including Stetson (2011, 2010, 2009), ETSU (2008) and Campbell
(2007). The last time a host school did not win the event was 2006
when CU claimed the title at DeBary (Fla.) Golf Club.
Campbell has finished either first (a league record eight times) or
second (seven times) in the A-Sun women's championship 15 of its 17
years as a league member. CU will re-join the Big South
Conference (of which it was a charter member from 1983-94) on July
1, 2011.
