JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior Amanda
Miller drove in the game-winning run in the eighth inning with
a sacrifice fly to give Campbell's softball team (27-19, 9-4
Atlantic Sun) a 4-3 eighth inning victory over North Florida
(20-26, 4-9 Atlantic Sun) in the team's first game at UNF Softball
Complex on April 15 in Jacksonville, Fla.
Melton started the CU extra inning rally with a single. Senior Keeli
Michael moved her to second with a single. Senior Katie
Hinton reached on an error to load the bases. Miller followed
with a shallow sacrifice fly to left field that saw Melton motor
home from third with what would end up being the game winning run
after a slide around the UNF catcher.
Senior Katie Woodcock (10-1) went the distance for Campbell with
nine strikeouts. The nine strikeouts tie her career high. She also
did not walk a batter. The eight innings twirled are a career high.
UNF's Cortney Radke (18-17) took the loss for UNF. She allowed four
runs in eight innings with nine strikeouts.
The Camels struck first with three in the fourth inning. Hinton
singled and moved all the way to third on the two base throwing
error from the left fielder. Sophomore Sarah
Forgacs then homered to left center. The home run was her
second of the season. Junior Taylor
McGee made it back-to-back with her 10th of the
season. The blast was the 29th of her career and tied
her with Karlie Love for second most in CU history.
UNF nearly broke through for a run in fourth and would have if not
for the great throw by Hinton off the single from Alyson Bailey to
nail base runner Lauren Pollack at home.
The Ospreys drew to within one on Mariah Reynolds's two-out two run
double in the fifth inning. Kaley Brosky was hit by a pitch and
Reese reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning for
UNF.
UNF used a little small ball to tie the game in the bottom of the
seventh inning. Chie Somenya started the inning with a bunt single.
A sacrifice bunt moved her to second, a ground out took her to
third, she then scored on Jackie Reese's two-out two strike bunt
single.
