JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Campbell's softball team (27-20, 9-5 Atlantic
Sun) dropped a 7-6 game to North Florida (21-26, 5-9 Atlantic Sun)
in the team's night cap of the conference doubleheader in
Jacksonville, Fla. The game saw CU put up 13 hits, but also strand
11 runners in the loss.
Sophomore Brittany
Arnn (5-7) gave up two runs (both in the fifth inning) to take
the loss in relief for the Camels. She pitched 4.2 innings and
struck out six. The win was earned by Cortney Radke (19-17), who
allowed four runs in 6.1 innings in relief with nine
strikeouts.
Junior Christina
Melton homered twice in the loss for Campbell.
Campbell scored a pair of runs in the first inning. Senior Katie
Hinton reached on a fielder's choice. She raced around the
bases and scored on senior Amanda
Miller's triple. Miller would score the team's second run on an
illegal pitch.
UNF tied the score up in the second on Caroline Torre's single up
the middle.
The Camels took the lead back with a lead-off home run from Melton
to start the second inning. The home run was her third of the
season.
The Ospreys took the lead back in the bottom of the inning on Kaley
Brosky's three-run home run.
CU threatened in the fourth inning. Senior Keeli
Michael and Hinton single back-to-back to put two runners on
base and just one out. The next two were retired in order to keep
the score at 5-3 heading to the bottom of the frame.
The Camels tied the game at five with two runs in the fifth inning.
Junior Taylor
McGee walked to start the frame. Senior Lizzie
Goldbach was inserted to run for McGee and moved to second on
freshman Raven
Lee's swinging bunt single. Senior Lauren
Stephan then singled to left to load the bases. Melton drew a
walk to drive in the first run. After a strikeout, Michael singled
in Lee her hit to tie the game up.
UNF took the lead back in the bottom of the frame with a two-spot.
Alyson Bailey drove in the first with her single off the pitcher
and into right field. Torre scored the second run of the inning on
a wild pitch. She reached base earlier in the inning on a fielder's
choice in which no out was recorded.
Melton homered to start the seventh to make the score 7-6 and draw
Campbell to within a run, but that was as close as they could get
in the loss.
The Camels continue the road trip across town to take on league
rival Jacksonville on April 16 at 1 p.m.
