Diego Lawrence Earns Most Valuable Male Performer Award at Atlantic Sun Track Championships

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - Sophomore Diego Lawrence won five medals for the Camels (two gold, two silver, one bronze) Friday and Saturday at the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Track Championships hosted by the University of North Florida en route to being named Most Valuable Performer.

Lawrence also won the MVP award at the A-Sun Indoor Championships where he won four medals Feb. 18-19.

Lawrence followed up yesterday's long jump victory with by winning gold in the men's 200 meter dash with a UNF facility-record time of 21.20 seconds. Lawrence also won silver in the men's triple jump with a personal best mark of 14.79 meters.

Junior Rashad Campbell won silver (10.49 seconds) and Lawrence took bronze (10.54 seconds- personal best) in the men's 100 meter dash. Junior Cameron White finished ninth in the event with a time of 10.69 seconds.

The men's 4x100 meter relay team of White, Lawrence, Jared Simmons, and R. Campbell took silver with a school record time of 40.69 seconds.

The CU men finished third as a team with 128 points.

Junior Dave Matthews won silver in the men's javelin throw with a mark of 52.44 meters. Matthews added an eighth-place finish in the men's discus throw with a personal best hurl of 37.67 meters.

Senior Adoniss Jones won silver in the men's 400 meter hurdles (52.17 seconds- personal best) and bronze in the men's 110 meter hurdles (13.94 seconds). Jones also won bronze in the men's triple jump with a personal best mark of 14.17 meters.

Freshman Jayshawn Campbell took silver in the men's 400 meter dash with a time of 48.14 seconds. Freshman Chris Schulist finished fifth in the men's 1,500 meter run (3:59.72) and tenth in the men's 800 meter run (1:56.29).

In the men's 4x400 meter relay, J. Campbell, Denzel Jones, Andres Perez, and Kelvonto Cooper combined for a time of 3:21.65 and finished fifth.

Senior Terence Attema had a fifth-place showing in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:06.13. Cooper set a new personal best in the men's 400 meter hurdles with a time of 56.72 seconds and finished eighth.

In the men's 3000 meter steeplechase, sophomore DeLohnni Nicol-Samuel finished fourth (9:41.72) and sophomore Colin Lavigne placed eighth (10:05.92).

R. Campbell finished seventh and J. Campbell finished eighth in the 200 meter dash with personal best times of 21.65 and 21.71 seconds, respectively.

The CU women placed seventh as a team with 29 points. Junior Courtney Raynor placed fourth in the women's javelin throw with a personal best mark of 35.10 meters.

Freshman Mariah Collins placed sixth in the women's 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.87 seconds. Collins also finished ninth in the women's 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.49. Sophomore Sena Bekric finished two spots ahead of her teammate in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.17.

Freshman Brianna Kincade took ninth in the women's 100 meter dash (12.65 seconds). Kincade was also a part of the 4x400 meter relay team along with Collins, Bekric and Samantha Robbins which finished sixth with a time of 4:10.55.

Sophomore Jessica Dunston finished ninth in the women's discus throw with a mark of 32.57 meters.

Kennesaw State won the men's team title with 237 points, while Jacksonville won their sixth-straight outdoor women's title with 243 points.

The Camels will be competing again at the Orange & Purple Classic in Clemson, S.C. May 6-7.
