NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Campbell's softball team (20-18, 6-3 Atlantic
Sun) scored three runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth
inning to defeat Belmont (7-23, 0-5 Atlantic Sun) 8-3 in the team's
first game of the day at Draper Diamond in Nashville, Tenn.
Senior Katie Woodcock (7-1) pitched 4.2 innings in relief with
seven strikeouts to earn the victory for CU. Devon Schmidt (6-10)
took the loss for the Bruins and allowed five runs in 4.1 innings
worked.

Miller had a three-hit performance for Campbell. She also drove
in a pair of runs. Eight different Campbell players crossed the
plate in the win. The Camels picked up 11 hits in the victory.
The Camels broke through for a run in the third inning. Junior Christina
Melton started the frame with a lead-off single. She moved to
second on a walk to Keeli
Michael and third on Katie
Hinton's sacrifice bunt. Senior Amanda
Miller drove her in with her single to right.
The Bruins tied the game up in the bottom of the frame. Courtney
Eldrod reached on a walk to begin the inning. A sacrifice moved her
to second and Becca Gift followed with a single to drive her in.
Cassie Bollin reached on an error from the CU first baseman. After
Hannah Irwin singled to load the bases with one out, Woodcock was
brought in relief and salvaged the inning for CU. Woodcock recorded
a fly out and a strikeout to keep the game knotted at one.
The Camels offense put up a three-spot in the fourth inning. Senior
Lauren
Stephan doubled and scored on Melton's single. Michael then
reached on a fielder's choice. Hinton followed with a triple to
score Michael from first. Hinton scored the team's third run of the
inning and fourth of the game on Miller's double.
CU added another run in the fifth as Melton drove in pinch runner
Lizzie
Goldbach with a grounder.
The Camels finished off the CU scoring with three more in the
sixth. Miller and Forgacs both singled back-to-back to start the
inning. A walk to McGee loaded the bases. Freshman Raven
Lee hammered a ball against the wall in right to drive in
Miller and Forgacs. McGee scampered home with the team's eighth run
on a wild pitch.
The Bruins drew two runs closer in the bottom of the seventh on
RBIs from Byers and Stayci Cook to make the final score 8-3
Campbell.
