BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Mercer collected 18 hits to top Campbell 16-5 in
game one of the teams' weekend series Friday night at Taylor
Field.
Mercer moves to 19-9 overall and 6-6 in Atlantic Sun play, while
Campbell falls to 12-15 on the season and 1-9 in conference
games.
Brandon Love picked up the win for the Bears, improving to 4-0 on
the season with three runs on seven hits in six innings, while
striking out nine and walking one.
Campbell starter Frank
Zier took the loss, falling to 0-3 this season after fanning
nine in five innings and walking two. The senior also scattered
five runs, three earned, on eight hits.
Six Bears posted 2-RBI nights, including Billy Burns, who led off
the contest with a home run to left. Burns also scored three runs
and knocked in another on a 2-for-5 night. Freshman DJ Johnson also
scored a pair while going 4-for-5 at the plate, and Travis Benn
posted a 2-for-3 effort with a pair of RBI and runs.
Josh
Holskey paced the Camels with a 3-for-4 night that included an
RBI and two doubles. Ellis
Lowe, meanwhile, went 2-for-5 with another CU double, his
65th as a Camel, tying the senior for the all-time
record with former teammate Zach
Johnson.

Fish also drove in runs for the Camels in the loss. Fish and Cameron
Nelson each collected two-hit nights.
The Camels will return to Taylor Field next week, hosting UNC
Wilmington on Tuesday, April 5. Campbell will head to North
Carolina Central on Wednesday before welcoming North Florida over
the weekend.
