Softball Shutouts Hampton, 12-0

HAMPTON, Va. - Campbell's softball team (22-18, 7-3 Atlantic Sun) won the team's fourth consecutive game with a 12-0 win over Hampton (9-22) in Hampton, Va. on Wednesday, April 6. The shutout was Campbell's second of the season. The Camels will take on the Lady Pirates for one more game this afternoon before returning home this weekend.

Senior Lauren Stephan (5-5) earned the win for Campbell with five shutout innings. She allowed just four hits with three strikeouts. The loss went to Tiffany Brents (4-3). Brents allowed five runs in four innings worked.

Sophomore Sarah Ling tied her career-high with four RBIs. She also scored three times herself in the game. Senior Keeli Michael tied a Campbell game record with four walks. The record she tied was set by fellow senior Katie Hinton earlier this season. Nine different players were able to score runs in the game for CU.

CU scored first with a run in the first inning. Michael walked, stole second and scored on senior Amanda Miller's single. Miller would drive in two runs in the game.

The Camels added the second run of the game in the second. Ling reached on an infield single, stole second and scored on Hinton's two-out single up the middle. Hinton drove in a pair of runs in the game for CU.

Campbell scored three in the third inning. Sophomore Sarah Forgacs and junior Taylor McGee reached on back-to-back singles to start the inning. Both scored on Ling's three-run home run. The home run was Ling's second of the season.

CU exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning. Stephan started the rally with a single. Junior Christina Melton and Michael then walked to load the bases. Hinton drove in the first run with a single to left. Miller drew a walk to drive in a run. Forgacs, freshman Jordan Clarke and freshman Katie Andrews were all hit by pitches to drive in three more runs. Ling singled the next run in with a single to second. The RBI was her fourth of the game. Michael singled in the final run of the game with her single to left.
