BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Campbell baseball will host Alumni Night on
Wednesday, May 11, when the Camels take on North Carolina State at
Taylor Field.
"Wednesday night will be a great opportunity for us to get together
and celebrate the history and success of Campbell baseball," said
CU head coach Greg Goff. "We have some great alumni that have gone
on to do tremendous things both on and off the diamond and we're
looking forward to seeing them back at Taylor Field."
CU baseball will offer a barbeque and chicken cookout to all former
Campbell baseball players, coaches, managers, trainers and their
immediate family members beginning at 5 p.m. at Taylor Field. Each
baseball alumni and their family members will also receive a
complimentary ticket to the game.
All alumni in attendance will be honored on the field prior to the
game, with former Camel and 1970 Cy Young award winner Jim Perry
throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.
Game time is set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Jim Perry attended Campbell from 1956-59 and played baseball and
basketball before signing with the Cleveland Indians. He then went
on to play professional ball for 17 years in the American League.
During his career, he won 215 games and lost 174, while striking
out 1,576 batters in 3,286 innings. He also hurled 32 shutouts and
compiled a 3.45 ERA. Jim won the Cy Young Award in 1970 while
playing for the Minnesota Twins. He and Gaylord established a
major league record for victories compiled by brothers (529) that
was later broken by the sibling tandem of Phil and Joe Niekro.
Jim was inducted along with his brother Gaylord into the Campbell
Sports Hall of Fame on April 26, 1984. They were the first of
Campbell's athletes to receive that honor.
