Hamme perfect at plate in Tigers organization debut

COMSTOCK PARK, MICH. -- Former Camel standout Ryan Hamme went 4-for-4 at the plate Sunday in his debut with the West Michigan Whitecaps, the Midwest League (Class A) affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.

Just five days after he was released by the Chicago White Sox organization, Hamme singled four times and drove in a run in an 8-0 victory over the Dayton Dragons. He smacked an RBI single to right field in the bottom of the second inning in his first Midwest League at-bat.

Hamme hit .218 (12-of-55) with eight RBI and three stolen bases in 18 games this season for the Kannapolis Intimidators of the South Atlantic (Class A League).

He made his professional debut at Great Falls (Mont.) of the Pioneer (Rookie) League in 2009, batting .278 with 24 RBI and 13 steals in 61 games. In 2010, he hit .286 with 4 home runs and 31 RBI in 60 games split between Great Falls and Kannapolis.

Hamme was selected in the 31st round of the 2009 draft White Sox. As a senior at Campbell in 2009, the outfielder from Wilmington, N.C., Ashley High School batted .438, fifth-highest in the country and tops in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The first-team all-conference choice led the nation in doubles per game (0.59) and ranked sixth in overall doubles (26 in 43 outings).
