COMSTOCK PARK, MICH. -- Former Camel standout Ryan Hamme went
4-for-4 at the plate Sunday in his debut with the West Michigan
Whitecaps, the Midwest League (Class A) affiliate of the Detroit
Tigers.
Just five days after
he was released by the Chicago White Sox organization, Hamme
singled four times and drove in a run in an 8-0 victory over the
Dayton Dragons. He smacked an RBI single to right field in the
bottom of the second inning in his first Midwest League at-bat.
Hamme hit .218
(12-of-55) with eight RBI and three stolen bases in 18 games this
season for the Kannapolis Intimidators of the South Atlantic (Class
A League).
He made his
professional debut at Great Falls (Mont.) of the Pioneer (Rookie)
League in 2009, batting .278 with 24 RBI and 13 steals in 61
games. In 2010, he hit .286 with 4 home runs and 31 RBI in 60
games split between Great Falls and Kannapolis.
Hamme was selected in the 31st round of the 2009 draft White
Sox. As a senior at Campbell in 2009, the outfielder from
Wilmington, N.C., Ashley High School batted .438, fifth-highest in
the country and tops in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The
first-team all-conference choice led the nation in doubles per game
(0.59) and ranked sixth in overall doubles (26 in 43 outings).
