Volleyball Releases 2011 Schedule

BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Campbell's 2011 volleyball schedule will feature a full slate of Big South games as well as five tournaments and eight home dates.

"It's a much different schedule than last season, not only with who we play in conference, but also with our tournaments," said CU head coach Leigh Mullins. "I think our tournament schedule will better prepare our team for the long haul of the season."

The season will kick off on Friday, Aug. 26 in Durham, N.C. when the Camels take on North Carolina Central in a tournament hosted by the Eagles. Campbell will also see former Atlantic Sun rival Florida Gulf Coast and Elon over the weekend.

"We have a great preseason schedule to get us ready for conference play," said Mullins. "We play both Wisconsin and Duke, giving our players an opportunity to see where our program needs to be in order to compete at the top of our conference and in the NCAA Tournament."

Sept. 2 and 3 will see the Camels travel to Raleigh, N.C. for a tournament hosted by North Carolina State. CU will face off against Wisconsin, Western Carolina and North Carolina A&T in addition to the Wolfpack.

After Campbell makes its home debut on Sept. 6 against UNC Wilmington, the Camels will return to the road with Charlotte, Furman and Morgan State at Charlotte.

For the second straight season, CU will head to historic Cameron Indoor Stadium to meet the Blue Devils of Duke. This season's matchup will be on Sept. 13 in Durham, N.C.

The Camels' final pair of tournaments will be at Elon and at High Point. Campbell will take on the Phoenix and NC Central on Sept. 16 and 17 before traveling to HPU on Sept. 23 and 24, where the Camels will see Maryland Eastern Shore and Norfolk State in addition to the Panthers.

The Sept. 23 match with High Point will mark the Camels' first Big South conference game since 1993, when CU joined the A-Sun, then known as the Trans America Athletic Conference.

"We're very excited to be making the move to the Big South," said Mullins. "Our Big South schedule will be very competitive, playing Liberty, Coastal and High Point twice. We're definitely looking forward to building new, and renewing old rivalries and traditions with our new conference members."

From there, Campbell will play a full 14-match Big South schedule, with home contests featuring Radford, Liberty, Winthrop, Presbyterian, High Point, Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina. The Camels will also head to Coastal Carolina, Charleston Southern, UNC Asheville, Gardner-Webb, Liberty and Radford.

The Big South Tournament will be held Nov. 17-20 in Charleston, S.C.
