BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell begins a 3-match home stand Wednesday while opening Big South play against Radford, marking the program's first BSC regular season contest since a 3-1 victory at UNC Greensboro on Oct. 27, 1993. Since starting the year 3-0-1, the Camels have dropped their last 4 matches. CU has not suffered a 5-game losing streak since 2002.
LAST TIME OUT: CAMPBELL (3-4-1, 0-0-0 Big South) dropped a 2-0 decision at 14th-ranked Charlotte Saturday night. CU fell to 4-11-1 against nationally-ranked foes since 2005 (0-1-1 this season)... RADFORD (4-3-0, 0-0-0 Big South) scored 3 times in the first 2:47of the second half to erase a 1-0 deficit and went on to defeat Elon 5-1 Saturday. Iyiola Awosika scored 3 goals (2 off penalty kicks) for the Highlanders, who found the nets 5 times on 7 shots on goal.
THE SERIES: Campbell leads the all-time series with the Highlanders 12-7-0, but the teams have not met since Oct. 17, 2000 when RU defeated Campbell 5-0 in Buies Creek... Campbell defeated Radford 3-1 in the 1985 Big South Championship game, and also upset the top-seeded Highlanders 1-0 in the '91 semis en route to the title.
BACK HOME IN THE BIG SOUTH: After a 17-year tenure in the Atlantic Sun Conference (and claiming four league trophies since 2005), the Camels return to the Big South, of which CU was a charter member from 1984-93... CU has the highest BSC regular season winning percentage of any current member (.746, 51-17-1 from 1984-93)... Campbell also owned the best record of all A-Sun members in regular season play from 2005-2010 (36-10-5). In 10 seasons, Campbell won the Big South regular season title five times (1984, 1985, 1988, 1990, 1993), the tournament championship on four occasions (1984, 1985, 1991, 1992) and finished as league tournament runner-up three years (1986, 1989, 1993).
CAMEL NOTES: The Camels have dropped their last 3 contests without scoring a goal -- a scoreless stretch of 315 minutes... Campbell's last goal came in the 45th minute of a 3-1 setback to Elon on Sept. 14... CU has created chances during its drought, however, holding a 63-44 advantage in shots during the span... Junior midfielder Mitchell Cardenas has played all but 18 minutes (722 of a possible 740) over the first 8 games... Of J.J. Elder's 8 shots on goal, 5 have hit the nets.
RADFORD NOTES: The Highlanders have won 3 of their last 4 outings, the lone blemish a 4-3 setback last Tuesday at Virginia. The Cavaliers scored 4 times in the opening 20 minutes only to see Radford cut the gap to 1... Radford also dropped a 2-1 decision Sept. 4 at #4 Maryland... Iyiola Awosika (6 goals, 1 assist) and Brian Gwanzura (5G, 1A) lead the Highlander attack, while Korean U-19 national team member Chel Ho Kim Park has 4 assists.
HOME, SWEET HOME: Since the start of the 2005 campaign, Campbell owns a 35-18-2 (.655) record at the Eakes Athletic Complex -- including 3 wins over nationally-ranked teams at the site. CU is still looking for its first home field win this year after a draw with Furman losses to Elon and Davidson.
