Leppikangas Leads PK-35 to Finland Cup Championship

Vantaa, Finland - Campbell women's soccer alumna Pirjo Leppikangas recently captained her team, PK-35 Vantaa to the Finland Cup championship. Her team defeated Pallokissat 2-1 to capture the title. 

In addition to the Cup title, PK-35 also competed in the UEFA Women's Champions League. The team went 2-2-1 in tournament play, winning three series and qualifying for the knockout stages before falling to defending UEFA champions Olympique Lyonoisse in a home and away series.

Leppikangas played every minute of the European games, scoring once in the qualifying round against WFC Osijek, as PK-35 won 3-1.  During qualification, PK35 played the champions of Croatia, Scotland and Moldova before falling to the French side during the knockout stages. 

Leppikangas served as a vital player in Campbell's offense from 2010-11. During her two years in Buies Creek, she started all 41 games, scored 14 goals, had 10 assists, and tallied 38 points. Six of her goals were game winners.  She was honored as a first team Big South Conference selection during her final season as well as All-Tournament as the Fighting Camels advanced to the BSC championship match and finished with a program-best 15-5-2 record.

In the Campbell record books, the Helsinki, Finland native is tied for ninth for career goals, eighth for season goals (10 in 2011), and sixth for season shots (61 in 2011). She is also tied for seventh for season points, as she totaled 28 in 2011.
