Box Score Conway, S.C. – The Fighting Camels dropped their third straight match Thursday at Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers (9-7-0, 6-3-0) defeated the Fighting Camels 2-0, as Campbell moved to 9-6-1 overall and to 4-5-0 in the Big South.
The Fighting Camels' best scoring opportunity of the first half came just five minutes into the game. Sophomore Ashley Clark broke down the field with the ball and had a try on goal. Coastal goalkeeper Megan Spencer was able to deflect the ball from the goal, keeping the score sheet clean.
The Chanticleers first got on the scoreboard in the 20th minute of play. Fia Jonsson delivered a pass from the right flank to Cisca Okoko. Okoko broke two Campbell tackles in the penalty box and had a shot on the left side of the goal, getting by freshman keeper Alexis Connors to make the score 1-0.
The first half ended with each side having four shots. Connors and Spencer each had one save at the end of 45 minutes.
The Chants notched their second goal on the team's first shot of the second half in the 53rd minute. Christina Stern gave a pass from the middle of the field to Jonsson, running down the left wing. Jonsson had a try and put the shot in the far corner of the goal, bringing the score to 2-0 in favor of Coastal.
Coastal outshot Campbell 8-4 in the second half and 12-8 overall. Connors finished with three saves on the day. Clark led Campbell with three shots, one on goal. Sophomore Michelle Procaccini had the only other Camel shot on goal.
The Fighting Camels remain tied with Charleston Southern for seventh place in the Big South entering the final two games of the regular season. The top eight teams will advance to Big South tournament play.
