RECORDS: CAMPBELL (6-2-1) rallied from a 2-0 deficit after 34 minutes to defeat VMI 3-2 on Saturday at Lexington, Va. Keegan Terry, Aleksi Tossavainen and Jhuvon Francis scored for the Camels, who posted their highest-scoring game of the year… VIRGINIA TECH (4-4-1) lost a 4-0 decision to 16th-ranked Wake Forest on Friday night and dropped to 1-3-1 over the last 5 games. All 3 of those losses came against nationally-ranked ACC foes.
LAST MEETING: Brian Urioste gave the Camels the lead in the 20th minute, but a 70th minute own goal allowed Virginia Tech to salvage a 1-1 draw last year at BLacksburg. The Camels finished with a 23-11 edge in shots.

CARDENAS CLIMBS SCHOOL CHARTS: Senior MF Mitchell Cardenas has moved into 22nd place on the school's all-time scoring list with 60 points on 17 goals and 26 assists... Next on the chart at No.-21 with 61 points is John Reed (22 goals, 17 assists from 1981-84) and Ukrit Pachimaswat (26G, 12A, 64 pts., from 1965-66, 69-70)... Cardenas is only 1 assists shy of jumping into the program's all-time top-10 in assists... He stands 6th among Big South scoring leaders with 12 points (3G, 6A) and is 2nd in assists... Cardenas has had at least one point in 7 of CU's 9 matches this year... He scored game-winning goals vs. Loyola and last week at Longwood, when he struck with only 33 seconds remaining in the 2nd half.
CAMEL NOTES: Senior D Ben Iiames (60 matches) and junior D Aleksi Tossavainen (48) have extended their consecutive starts strings through the first 9 matches... Junior GK Ethan Hall ranks 3rd in the Big South with a 0.98 goal-against average and is 2nd in save percentage (.820) and shutouts (4)... Sophomore F Ricki Gaez leads the team with 4 goals scored on 20 shots this season. A year ago, Gaez scored once on 45 shots in 18 matches... Junior D Travis Golden has played all 830 minutes for CU this year, a mark matched by Cardenas, Eduardo Rodriguez and Hall.

ACC SUCCESS UNDER ARMAS: Under the guidance of 3rd-year head coach Steve Armas, a 2003 Maryland graduate, the Camels own a 2-1-1 record against members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The lone setback came at 10th-ranked Virginia in 2010. Last year, Campbell defeated NC State 1-0 in Buies Creek and drew 1-1 at Virginia Tech. In addition to Tuesday's match vs. the Hokies, the Camels travel to 6th-ranked North Carolina (Oct. 23).
CAMPBELL MEN'S SOCCER CELEBRATES GOLDEN SEASON: Campbell University celebrates its 50th season of men's soccer varsity competition this fall. Festivities feature a gathering of men's soccer alumni during Homecoming weekend (Oct. 19-20) on campus. All-Decade Teams will be named for the 1960s, '70s, '80s, '90s and 2000s and released periodically throughout the campaign. On Fri., Oct. 19, a men's soccer golf outing will be held at Keith Hills Country Club to kick off the Homecoming weekend. An Alumni-v-Alumni game is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Sat., Oct. 20, followed by a luncheon before the 3:30 p.m. varsity game vs. Presbyterian.
HOME, SWEET HOME: Since the start of the 2005 campaign, Campbell owns a 40-19-2 (.672) record at the Eakes Athletic Complex -- including 3 wins over nationally-ranked teams at the site. CU finished 4-3-1 at home in 2011; winning its final four matches at Eakes, and its first two home contests this year
OCTOBER A NIGHTMARE FOR CAMPBELL FOES: Campbell has compiled a record of 30-7-4 (.781) in its last 41 games during the month of October (including a 6-1-1 mark in 2011). In those 41 contests, the Camels have out-scored their foes by an 85-49 margin.
CAMELS VS. NATIONALLY-RANKED TEAMS: The Camels stand 1-0-1 vs. nationally-ranked teams this year, including a 1-1 draw at then No.-16 SMU on Aug. 24 and a 2-0 victory at 17th-ranked NC State (Sept. 18)… Since the start of the 2005 campaign, Campbell owns a 5-12-2 mark against nationally-ranked foes… Three more teams on the 2012 CU schedule are ranked in one of this week's national polls – Coastal Carolina (Oct. 10), High Point (Oct. 17) and North Carolina (Oct. 23).
HEAD COACH STEVE ARMAS (Maryland, '03) is in his third year in charge of the Camel program and has guided his teams to a 21-20-7 overall record, 11-10-0 in league regular season play. Under Armas' direction, the Camels are 2-1-1 vs. Atlantic Coast Conference members and 1-5-2 vs. nationally-ranked teams.
